On 2nd February 2025 at 11 am, the Archbishop of Dublin, Dermot Farrell, will celebrate Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Killester. During the Mass the holy relic of St. Brigid will be reinstated in a newly designed secure shrine. A blessing with the relic will be given to the congregation.
The relic, one of only a few first-class relics of St. Brigid in Ireland, was given to St. Brigid’s Church in 1929. It has not been on display for a number of years after the reliquary which houses the relic was stolen in 2012.
Speaking on the importance of the relic in our lives, Fr. Joseph Whelan, Parish Priest, Killester said, “Spending time in the presence of the relic of St. Brigid helps to inspire us and learn from her life. Patron of our Parish, Schools and Country, St. Brigid’s life was deeply Christian, her faith in Christ strengthened her to witness to the Gospel and do good for others. She is a witness that has stood the test of time and who continues to inspire so many.”
The Mass of St. Brigid, composed by Eileen Dwyer, will be sung by the choir.
Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Resource Centre.
The Mass will be available online at www.killesterparish.ie/webcam
